I’ve seen a lot of comments refuting the idea that certain songs have a certain meaning value because they were written in one sitting. ex: “stairway to heaven”
If an artist writes a song in one sitting That certainly does not make it shallow.
Our brains are unbelievably complex and the subconscious plays a HUGE role in the threading of our thoughts and words. In my eyes some of the artists who create songs impulsively in this manner are adding even MORE meaning to their work because (depending on the magnitude of their soul) stream of consciousness can link together thoughts and ideas floating in the back of your mind that you are not presently aware of.
People have refuted meaning in Radiohead because he reportedly “fished” for words using the Dadaist method.
Conor Oberst from Bright Eyes has stated before that he just lets everything he has learned swirl around in his subconscious and come out his pen; his songs are some of the most complex and meaningful i’ve ever heard.
